When I first chose to come to ºù«Ӱҵ, that was for my masters degree programme. This is one of the very few universities in the UK or in the world to offer an environmental engineering degree from a chemical engineering school.

I also chose to come back to ºù«Ӱҵ for my PhD degree which I am currently pursuing, primarily because I already knew what the university had to offer, so I was really excited to come back.

My PhD research project falls under the Energy 2050 Research Group. We all carry out different types of research regarding renewable energy. The university has very strong ties with the Translational Energy Research Centre and the UK's Energy Institute, both of which have a very strong vision working towards decarbonisation before 2050.

I'm also working with my supervisor who's the editor of Fuel Journal, which is one of the estemmed journals in the renewable energy space. I'm also doing an industry sponsored funded project. So I'm actively working closely with industry to solve one of their key issues which makes my research all the more exciting!

We interviewed Madhumitha in April 2025.
